Francis grew up in Molo, Kenya, where weekends meant fetching water, collecting firewood, and helping with family work. Studying abroad was never part of the dream. After high school, he joined his father's business until one conversation changed everything.
His family took a bold risk — borrowing against their only asset to support his journey. His first visa was refused. It was a crushing moment. But he didn't give up. He applied again and succeeded.
That experience shaped Openmaps: the resilience, the sacrifices parents make, and the trust families place in us to walk the journey with them. Over the past decade, Francis has helped more than 2,500+ students from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia start their own study abroad journeys.
